Working together to improve diagnosis, care, and research for rare childhood lung diseases
The European Respiratory Society launched ChILD-EU in 2015 to tackle the complex challenges of interstitial lung disease in children (chILD)—a group of over 200 rare conditions. These diseases often show non-specific symptoms, leading to delayed or incorrect diagnoses and limited treatment options.
ChILD-EU brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, and families across Europe to share knowledge, improve diagnosis, and advance care. Through collaborative research and clinical networks, we aim to improve outcomes and understanding for every child affected by chILD.

Networking & Collaboration
The ChILD-EU CRC connects experts and patients across Europe and beyond, fostering cross-border collaboration to tackle chILD challenges.
Research & Innovation
We lead pioneering projects to improve the management, diagnosis, and long-term care of children with ILD. Current efforts focus on targeted treatments, long-term disease outcomes, and personalised care.
Education & Engagement
Through publications, webinars, educational documents, and collaboration with patient organisations, we ensure the latest research reaches clinicians and families alike.
